The Silent Media-Media Meditation #1

Why hello there. You must have come to check out my monthly musings on media, and to track my journey into geek-dom. So of course, I have to start by talking about the most obvious form of media, Web 2.0. Which as we all know is where this blog resides. Anyways, Web 2.0 has lead to the success of social media platforms. Facebook is one of those such platforms. You can access it anywhere there is an internet connection, but how far is too far when it comes to the addiction to Facebook?

I think, being able to access Facebook in your car is too far. That is why the Web 2.0 is my least favorite form of media. I love books, and yes, they are a form of media.

Books have personality. Technology doesn't. Books are personal, technology isn't. I ask you, gentle readers, when was the last time you picked up a book, for fun?

Okay, so maybe not that kind of fun, but the kind of fun where you are transported to another world. Books are amazing, they hold a new adventure each day. They could also be classified as an escape. You might say, "Well I read books, on my Kindle." Dear, dear reader, that isn't the same. It might be more convenient to read a book on a Kindle, but it depletes some of the experience. You have to hold the book to understand.

I have a mission for you: go to your local library, go to any random bookshelf, pick up a book. Check it out, sit on the floor and read a few pages. You might be surprised about what you find. If you get bored, switch books, a new adventure awaits you everytime.

Until next time,

Your resident geek

  1. I like your last bit of advice in this excellent blog post, Tasha.

Fine use of our "sexy 6" to communicate via Web 2.0.

    Well done!
